The 4TB disks have now arrived and its time to get to work.
As you may or may not know, the N40L has 4 slot bays for SATA disks and one 5.25″ bay empty for CD ROM Drives. I have decided to install a 200GB disk in the empty 5.25″ bay to fully utilise the 4 SATA slot bays for my storage.
OS deployed, I have found that as part of 2012 R2, File Services Roles are installed by default.
Open up Server Manager and navigate to File and Storage Services > Volumes > Disks
You will now be presented with your disks
As we are looking to create a Storage Pool with these four disks, navigate to Storage Pools. You will see that no pools are currently configured but disks have been detected that can be used as part of a new pool.
Right click on where it says Primordial and select New Storage Pool.
Give the pool a name and select where the disks to be used are located.
You will now be shown a list of available disks that can be added to the pool. Select as appropriate.
Confirm and complete.
Now that your pool has been created, you can begin to create ISCSI disks and attach them as you wish!
